Well next week, I will be taking the infamous SAT II tests on physics and United States History, and to tell the truth, I am kind of scared of doing it. I've been practicing fairly rigorous and had to prevent myself from going to a LAN party over this weekend. Sigh... Sometimes I don't see much point behind studying at all... What I find hard to believe is that some people even ENJOY studying. I envy them. But at for me, studying is a forced part of my life that I would not rather do, and I believe many others think the same way. But then why do we study at all? What do we accomplish by studying? Does it help us to become better human beings? Does it help us to do well when we get a job?

WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE SMILING AT???
It seems pretty obvious to me that what we study in high school and college does not actually have to deal with anything that we will actually do in our adult life. I've asked many of my relative and adults that I'm 'friends' with, and they never actually had to use math or write a essay on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' throughout their entire lives past college. True, everyone needs to file taxes and accounting once in awhile, but they have people and products that do that for us. God invented calculator for the mankind, but why do we need to perform calculations without it? Everyone tells us math is relevant, especially our math teachers, but they only do it because they feel useless otherwise.

I simply do not see any point behind this.
And what we do in our jobs will probably never require what we learn today. RIGHT HAND RULE WILL NEVER SHOW UP PAST PHYSICS IN OUR LIVES. MR. HANNUM WILL NOT SHOW UP ON OUR DEATHBEDS AND GIVE US A QUIZ. So why do we study? Why do we compete against everyone in the United States to get a 2400 on our SAT? It is simply a terrible result of the economic phenomena of Supply and Demand.
All the good jobs in the world are limited, but everyone wants to be a well paid programmer/doctor/lawyer/god emperor of mankind. So there is no choice but to rank us to see who is the most deserving to receive such positions. And some idiot in the past decided to establish a school to decide the rankings. It's not a terrible system mind you. Much better than the primitive system of 'The physically strong gets all the women'. Guys like me who are bloody weakling get a shot at success this way. But it ain't perfect. In the current system of 'schools' people who are the smartest don't often get the best grades in the school, and good and kind people who are not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed don't often get the recognition that they deserve. Ultimately, people who want the best position the most wins. The people who are willing to sacrifice everything in order for a A at the end of the week get to become the programmer/doctor/lawyer/god emperor of mankind.

A classic example of a man who succeeded via education.
But I want to get a good job, have tons of money, and to procreate as well to a certain degree, thus I play the game of education along with everyone else. Some say that education at school makes us into proper members of the society when we become adults. Wrong. I was almost ruined by the system of education when I lived in Korea. I was bullied to hell by almost everyone for a mysterious reason, and I turned into something that I would never like to become again. In fact, if I hadn't met a kid named Joe-Gae-Hyun in Korea, I think I could have turned into something that I could have never come back from. Anyway, I'm not gonna talk about my bullied years in Korea much in this blog, so don't ask me about it. The people who turned me into what I am today are my parents and family. They aren't exactly the nicest people around, but they taught me to become a generally ok person and I love them for it. Anyway, my point is that school don't necessarily turn you into a proper member of the society.

This place almost ruined my entire life.
So, basically in my opinion, the system of using education to rank the individuals in society is a flawed system that has holes everywhere. But I would have to say that I couldn't think of a better system. Education is the worst system of ranking people, but it's the best one we have right now. Besides, it's not full of bad things. It does teach me interesting things and does humor me on occasions. Education can be fun sometimes I guess...
So, in the end, this entry changes nothing in the world. I will continue to study and go to school along with everyone else because I want to succeed in life. I will have to do my best in the SAT II because I want to have a good job and be able to buy kimchi when I live by myself. But we should always remember not to forget to bigger picture in life.(I also kinda just wanted to blow some steam) Let's not take everything at a face value. It is important to question to norm in our lives.
COMMENT!
post edit: This article comes from my angst after spending my entire day studying. I was kind of angry at studying. Also, I'm not saying that education sucks. All I'm saying it that it has flaws, just like everything else in the world.
